SAFETY CHECKS.
Visual check to ensure the appliance is sound and secure.
Thorough inspection of the heat exchangers to ensure there are no splits or holes.Â
Removal of the burners for inspection and cleaning. If required.
Electrodes, ionization probes, diffusers, pilots and thermocouples will be checked, cleaned and replaced where required.
The gas valves will be checked for soundness and let by to the local isolator.
Burner pressure and working pressure will be checked.
Flame failure and lockout will be checked.
Pressure switches will be checked.
The main fan and fan control switch will be tested.
Limit switches will be checked where possible.
The controls will be checked and set to the parameters given.
The flue system will be checked. (Spillage).
A full combustion and efficiency check will be carried out.Â
A service report will be issued detailing the results of the service.
The Importance of Gas Safety Checks.
As well as being a requirement under the Gas Safety Regulations 1998, it is very important to have any gas appliance inspected and the combustion checked at least once a year. Without this a gas heater can become a danger to life without anybody knowing it. Gas, as with any fossil fuel, can produce carbon monoxide (CO) a highly toxic gas which can kill in minutes. There are a number of factors which can result in CO being produced.

-
Incomplete combustion.
-
Inadequate ventilation.
-
Flame chilling (Two flames coming into contact with each other).
-
Flame impingement (A flame making contact with the heat exchanger).
-
An over gassed appliance. (Incorrect burner pressure).
-
Blocked primary air ports.
-
Dirty burner bars or injectors.
-
Blocked or restricted flues.
-
Cracked heat exchangers as pictured.
